She has always been small, ever since she was born she was so tiny and seemed so fragile. 10 moons on, her coat has thickened and she has put on some muscle, but she still seems tinier than the average apprentice. Her blue-gray pelt covers her like a downy blanket, orange spots are flicked on her pelt like marigolds in a meadow, blooming across her chest, forehead, and legs. The most noticeable part of Lavendernose is, of course, her large clouded eyes. They are normally half-lidded and downcast, as if she is actively trying to hide them, but the bright color against her deep blue fur makes them stand out more than she realizes. They are light blue and completely covered in what looks to be a pale, wet flesh, most cats do not look at her face because they consider them grotesque. Her posture is low to the ground, she keeps her whiskers as close to the grass as she can but this often gives her neck and back pain so she stands upright when in familiar ground. She often, without realizing, will scan her head from left to right, back and forth, in order to take in surroundings, identify familiar sounds and voices, and determine their location. She often catches herself scanning in that manner and immediately stops, fearing others watching her, or judging her.
optimistic - intelligent - respectful - suspicious - introverted - stubborn

First and foremost, Lavendernose is stubborn. Given the position she was handed after ‘saving her own life’ gave her a little bit of an attitude. The choices she makes are so much her own she has little regard for anything anyone else says. Lavendernose believes in herself because no one else but her mother has ever felt that way, and she takes pride in what she does as a medicine cat, now 6 moons on. So far, she has always been right, and she intends for it to stay that way.

She is rather suspicious of other cats, it doesn’t matter the clan they are in, she doesn’t wear her heart on her sleeve and seems rather secretive when speaking to others, choosing her words carefully as to not make herself feel vulnerable to anyone. She is an introvert, preferring her own company to anyone else’s. Lavendernose has never had many friends in the first place so getting all the attention as Medicine cat makes her extremely nervous and her introversion definitely shows. The more cats she treats over the course of the day the grumpier she seems, by the end of the day there are times when she addresses no one and completes her work in silence, exhausted from trying to be friendly all day.

Even if she can’t stand talking to clanmates for very long she is never disrespectful. Extremely polite, Lavendernose does her best to make every patient comfortable while being treated, will use a soft voice to calm them and will warn them when anything might hurt or sting. Her quiet voice and warning of side-effects can create an intelligent aura about her. Her eyes cannot see but her senses give her the ability to remember smells, tastes, and feelings to an astonishing degree. Even though Lavendernose isn’t good with names of herbs and plants as of yet, she learns very quickly and is making good progress.

She tries her best to keep a smile on her face. Lavenderpaw is almost irritatingly optimistic at times. She is sure everything will work out fine, don’t worry! Things will turn out the way they are supposed to. Life has turned from bad to worse as she was a child but in her young age she is prepared to live the rest of her days in a relatively-fake optimistic haze.

father - silverfoot {npc} - mother - robinheart {deceased}

0-5 moons
One kit in a litter is rather rare, but she was born mid-winter, weeks after she was expected to arrive. Robinheart, the kit’s mother, had feared the kit wouldn’t survive in the quickly chilling air of leaf-fall, and in return spent extra time licking the kit and warming it to make sure, this time, she would finally have a child. The kit was quite small, already cold, and didn’t appear to have much life in her, but Robinheart pressed on, pausing every now and then to watch for breathing. After a while, the kit’s little blue nose began to wiggle and she emitted a grunting sound, struggling to move herself closer to her mother. This was Lavendernose’s first brush with death.
Robinheart knew her daughter’s life would be tough from the start, and the more Lavendernose grew the more Robinheart’s suspicions were true. When the other kits her age had developed eye color and were up and walking around, Lavendernose remained wobbily. She never seemed to get the right footing, as if her bones were hollow. Her eyes, too, didn’t change color after the first month. They remained a light blue and as days and weeks passed they only seemed to get cloudier, and thicker. When she was able to stand and walk on her own her eyes appeared to be covered, sometimes she shook her head or itched them like they bothered her, but she seemed to get around fine save for the bumping into things every now and then.
Lavendernose didn’t have many friends since they had all outgrown her, but she was also teased because of the flesh that appeared to cover her eyes. Dead-eye was a common nickname chanted at her, but Robinheart made sure her daughter knew she was loved, if not by the clan then by her own mother. Lavendernose spent a lot of time with her mother, but what she didn’t know was her mother fought to give her kit a life of her own within the clan. Windclan considered her to be a pest and a hindrance more than anything and most of the clan was adamant that she be ‘kept out of sight’ to keep the clan appearing healthy, perhaps providing kit or elder care to keep her busy. Robinheart could not reason with her clanmates and had to agree that if Lavendernose couldn’t complete her apprenticeship or got any sicker she would never become a warrior.

6-10 moons
Lavendernose could not believe she had the opportunity to train with another kit under a mentor, something she had dreamed of but never had the courage to ask, let alone be able to talk to any of her clanmates without being barraged by names and insults. Lavendernose was well aware she was different by the time she could walk, but the nastiness was something she never understood. That attitude towards her would come to a head as her training began. She was being mentored with two other kits, her mentor had told the deputy of Windclan that she counted as half a cat and was not fit to train on her own, that her mentor required a third apprentice to assist the disabled cat. Lavendernose didn’t mind, she was just thrilled to be included in something.

During her training she was mostly ignored. While mentor and apprentices sparred with one another, Lavendernose would listen from afar and practice on her own time, learning to use her whiskers and paws to feel vibrations and her surroundings. She learned to tell the difference between grasses and even dirt, especially how the dirt thickened and moistened ever so slightly as they neared a small pond or puddle. She could smell the musty odor of moss and the damp grasses of the prairie, hear as the early morning dew slipped from leaf to leaf and the rabbit bounded with great leaps upwind of the trainees and their mentor. One hunting session about a moon into her training she managed to catch a vole, but no one she could hear was around to witness it. Lavendernose did her own thing while the other two apprentices trained, she wandered off and found where different grasses grew, she could tell the best smelling ones were herbs that could be used for healing and treatment. Sometimes at night she would move to the edge of the medicine cat’s den and eavesdrop on the healing process as it was happening, committing things to memory as best she could before going to sleep, reciting names with smells, bringing her secret knowledge with her out into the fields and exercising her senses as the physical training continued on a few yards away.

When Lavendernose was 10 moons of age, about 4 moons into her training, she was accustomed to leaving for patrols early in the morning and being completely ignored, having to run to catch up to them as they started walking. There was one morning, however, Lavendernose remembers being talked to on the way to the Windclan-Riverclan border. She could hear them talking and could tell by their breathing and walking pattern when one of the other apprentices would look behind at her or when they stopped to wait for her. The familiar roar of the river began to sound from up ahead of them. With her nose close to the damp dirt she could feel with her whiskers the large, wet blades of grass and smell the cool breeze from the rushing water. Before she knew it, a paw had placed itself on her ribs and had shoved her sideways, submerging her entire body into the choppy waters.
Things seemed to move extremely quickly after this. Lavendernose blinked in and out of consciousness, her shoulders and head being carried into rocks and large stones underneath the current. She couldn’t breathe as the water flipped her over and over. Soon, as she managed to keep her head above water and scrape her claws against stones near the riverbank, she managed to snag her claws into a bush growing close to the edge of the river. As the water tried to pull her under once more she managed to swing her other paw onto the bush and drag herself out of the water, underneath the branches for safety. She lay on her stomach, panting, as the emotions found her she began to wail and cry, feeling her wounds ache and ooze from her skin. She lay under that bush for hours before she managed to regain consciousness. This was Lavendernose’s second brush with death.

12-14 moons
Lavendernose arrived back in windclan camp, much to everyone’s surprise. Her posture erect, head held high, she scanned her neck around the camp and heard whispers and the padding of feet against dirt. She stood in front of those who thought her dead for two moons, strong and healthy, no scars were apparent, as if Starclan brought her back to life just to spite them.
No words were said to her, nor did she speak to anyone, but she could hear the hissing of gossip and insults all around her. Through muscle memory she walked over to her old den to find it empty and cold, the smell of her parents was dull, faint on the walls and dirt of their former den.
What did you do to my mother?” She barked, her head facing where the majority of whispers came from. They could see her wide, blue eyes staring at them with hate and distrust, from a distance she heard a clanmate remark that when Lavendernose didn’t appear after the morning patrol her mother left camp, presumably to look for her, but never returned.

Rooktalon was the one to confront Lavendernose on her return to camp. They discussed her healthy return and her mother, whose assumed death was not caused by any Windclan cat, her body was never found. Lavendernose was told details of the demise of former medicine cat and apprentice at Mothermouth, and the disease, fear of which carved itself deep into the clan, threatening the life of even their leader, Mothstar. The position of Medicine cat was offered to her because of her apparent incredible ability to bring herself back from death through means of her nose alone. She was given a warrior name, and was expected to work hard to keep her clan healthy.
