calico she-cat with long fur, a thick tail, and pale green eyes
finchkit - finchpaw
age: 41 moons gender: she-cat sexuality: bisexual
sturdy calico she-cat with medium-length fur, a thick tail, and pale green eyes
clan: thunderclan rank: medicine cat augur: the pine
reason for name:
the ginger, white, and black sections of her coat reminded her father of a finch’s plumage
Finchfur is equipped with an average-sized yet sturdy build, a frame further enhanced by her dense, medium length fur and thick fluffy tail. Her pelt is covered in vivid patches of black and ginger, leaving her legs, underbelly, and face predominately white. She possesses a fine-featured, almost delicate face, with a small pink nose, a relatively tiny mouth, and very thin, near-translucent whiskers. Her eyes are a light, grassy green much like her father’s. Finchfur’s paws, though small, are thickly furred, with a thin claw sheathed at each toe. Like her nose, the pads of her paws are pink as well as thick from traversing the various rocks and trees of the forest. Her overall pelt is very dense and takes on water easily, though it does provide excellent protection against the chill of leafbare and enemy claws.
Finchfur has scarring along her right shoulder and left hind leg, remnants of the an encounter with foxes at Mothermouth.
Finchfur is rather fastidious about her appearance, taking time each day to carefully wash and smooth down her coat, firmly believing that routine maintenance will not only reflect a healthy sense of self-care, but provide her with better protection in leafbare and a degree of relief in greenleaf. From her earliest days as a kit, Finchfur was always adventurous and bold, even troublesome, eager to explore and push boundaries both physical and emotional. At times she can even be somewhat brash, allowing her tongue to get ahead of her, though she doesn’t much care to curb it, believing in a frank, direct sort of honesty between herself and others. Some might even say she is disrespectful, but Finchfur considers her respect as something to be earned, not freely given, even if it’s to a senior warrior.
As a result Finchfur can be rather judgemental, never hesitating to present a Clanmate with a straightforward evaluation of themselves or something they may be dealing with. In turn, Finchfur is readily accepting of criticism against herself, seeing it as a chance to improve upon any of her weaknesses and make her a better, more effective warrior. By extension she is incredibly industrious, entirely dedicated to her work and her Clan, though this can also make her restless at times, hungry for a patrol spent gathering herbs, reinforcing the camp walls, or organizing ThunderClan’s store of medicinal plants -- anything to keep herself busy, moving, and engaged with the world. Even as fully fledged medicine cat with no one left to mentor her directly, Finchfur is no stranger to trouble, often prone to bouts of stubbornness and head-strong pursuits. Despite her position, Finchfur never shies away from a battle, and doesn’t make friends outside the Clans as easily as some of the other medicine cats might, and in no small part due to her sharp tongue.
mother: Rosetail, calico she-cat with yellow eyes, senior warrior father: Grasswhisker, brown tabby tom with green eyes, senior warrior older sister: Brackenpelt, she-cat with white, ginger, and tabby patches and yellow eyes
warrior mentor: Pitchstripe, deep russet she-cat with black stripes and pale blue eyes, senior warrior healing mentor: Sorrelclaw, dark ginger tom with short fur and one ear, wyrdwalking
0 moons: In greenleaf, Finchkit is born to Rosetail and Grasswhisker, two ThunderClan warriors. Her older sister is Brackenkit. Finchkit is an immediate hell-raiser, tearing around camp and pestering the warriors; Brackenkit trails her reluctantly, though often in fond exasperation. Finchkit also takes to spying on Sorrelclaw, ThunderClan’s medicine cat, as he works in his den. He pretends not to notice her.
6 moons: Finchkit becomes Finchpaw and is apprenticed to Pitchstripe, the warrior’s second apprentice after Doespring. Where Pitchstripe is stern and intolerant of her antics, Finchpaw is wild and eager, often clashing with her stoic mentor. Finchpaw grows into a capable hunter, but it is in battle training that she discovers her true talents. Despite their seemingly constant state of disagreement, Finchpaw’s training progresses, but not without bouts of inattention in which she often stops to take note of herbs she recognizes from Sorrelclaw’s den, even bringing him what she finds when she can. Sorrelclaw, perplexed but not all that surprised, is impressed by her knowledge, limited as it may be.
18 moons: Finchpaw becomes a warrior, earning the name Finchfur alongside her sister, Brackenpelt. Finchfur is honored for her tenacity and courage. The two sisters sit vigil side by side the following night.
20 moons: Sorrelclaw announces that he wishes to take on an apprentice, strangely adamant that he needs one immediately. ThunderClan, however, is sparse in its number of youth; no kits in the nursery, and all apprentices in the thick of their warrior training. And so Sorrelclaw goes to Finchfur, remembering her old passion for herbs and her curiosity as a young kit peeking into his den to watch him work. Finchfur rejects the offer, and Sorrelclaw grows increasingly agitated.
22 moons: Snowstar loses a life to greencough during a harsh leafbare, leaving her with four. Sorrelclaw, however, in another bid to gain Finchfur’s favor, tells the young warrior that it was not Snowstar’s fifth life she lost, but her second, leaving her with only one. The medicine cat warns her that a weakened, aging leader will attract further danger to ThunderClan. Shocked, but also suspicious that the old tom may be lying to her, Finchfur grudgingly accepts his offer at last and begins training to become a medicine cat. Finchfur’s parents and sister are incredibly proud of her new path in life, doubling the resentment she feels toward the position, into which she felt forced. Finchfur’s yearns for the life of a warrior, desperately missing patrols and other duties that she is no longer expected to carry out.
36 moons: Sorrelclaw succumbs to the same deep sickness that has killed and weakened many others in the forest, rendering him borderline comatose. He eats and drinks when prompted, hardly speaks, and stares blankly around him and through anyone addressing him. It is only then that the Clan understands the old tom’s urgency; perhaps he had glimpsed his demise in the stars. In addition to her other duties, Finchfur begins caring for Sorrelclaw, always making sure he has a clean nest and fresh kill, even as she works to think of a possible way to restore him. Snowstar also loses her final life at this time, and her deputy, Erminejaw, assumes leadership of ThunderClan. He and Finchfur journey together to the Moonstone, Erminestar for his leader ceremony and Finchfur for her ceremony as a new medicine cat.
green buds have begun to line the boughs of the forest, heralding the long-awaited arrival of newleaf. after a particularly vicious leafbare, the clans welcome the lengthening days and turn eagerly to the face of a warmer sun as the forest once again sets itself to grow.
